They aren't more "vivid", they are more accurate, properly representing the color gamut that the game designers, filmmakers, photographers, etc all designed their work to be displayed in. sRGB, rec.709, there are standards that studios of any kind work in and intend their finished product to be viewed in. they and I both understand that that ends up being 5% of the population, though.
I understand if actually seeing what the artist meant you to see isn't high on the list of importance, but I like to know the colors and shadow ratio and skintone and etc are actually what the game artist or filmmaker etc signed off on in post production, not some wild "turbocolor 120hz fluidmotion" horrible interpretation of it
*shrug* I like bright lively colors even if it's not "accurate" a lot of the time. I'm just saying, unless you're doing calibration work for film, you're not going to care about a monitor that costs 3-4 times as much for slightly different color. Yes, it may be more than slightly different to your eye if you work in it everyday and actually care about that sort of thing in the first place, but to a Chad for instance, IMO he'd get by just fine with the ASUS one for instance.
I can see the appeal to having something of better quality, but I should probably spend the money on glasses. If my vision isn't 20/20, why even get a fancy monitor?
I wish it was a subtle difference. It's a huge difference. Something that should be a shade of green shows up as blue, so on and so forth. If you saw them side by side you'd see what I mean. Also, 3-4 times as expensive? You can pick up a u2410 for 375 bucks. It's a quality monitor all around, not just color gamut.
In Riot's defense, he's probably the best at PC videogames on this forum (and I'm going to regret posting this since his ego is already completely unchecked) so whatever he's doing appears to be working.
