You know, I am amazed at the amount of work that goes into something like an Operating System. There's just so much shit that you have to account for and so much shit you have to code to just do the simplest thing. You need to double-click on a file to open it? There's so much shit you have to define and code at a high level to do that. You gotta design the basic interface, define what a mouse is, define what a mouse can do, define how the mouse can interact with the OS through a driver, define what a point is, define what a click does, define what a double-click does, and so much more shit that I've left out that ultimately boils down to a binary electrical signal of on (1) or off (0).

I'm amazed at how far we've come, I really am. I feel like it would be impossible to learn all the intricacies of an OS even if you had an entire lifetime to do it.

How the fuck was XP only have 45 million lines of code while a fucking Linux distribution has 419 million?

There's a lot more application software included in a typical Linux distro than a base Windows XP installation.

And actually, a very basic OS isn't that complex. For fun, write your own. There's a lot of little nuances that are difficult to get right, but it's not an intractably large problem or anything.
A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

That's a good vid. Like, I realize that that vid is (probably) a joke but it looks like a lot of effort went into it to the point where I'm not sure if this guy is being legit or not.

So uh ... Interpretation is tricky"

Man, you ever just have a bad day?

Did awful in Third Strike
Lost money in poker
Got the toilet clogged with toilet paper
Got my car back from the dealer only to see that they fucked with my car battery now I gotta get a new one
Didn't play DDR or study for CCNA because I was too tired / pissed from all the previous stuff
Didn't get enough sleep
Came in to work and everyone is freaking out about random stupid bullshit that's not my problem
Customers are giving me bad information and getting pissed when we can't read their minds
aaaaaaand I fucking forgot my lunch

Yesterday I got the toilet unplugged, bought and installed a new car battery, played the new Street Fighter 4, and helped resolve an issue at work after-hours.

I still didn't get enough sleep or get any exercise but hey I at least brought my lunch in today. All in all I would say that the last two days have been a net positive.

Man I love IRC but I feel like it's sort of crushed activity on this board and God dammit I will be God damned if I lose this messageboard!

I've mostly sworn off IRC use because it limits my productivity too much so I just don't have time. :?
