If you read XKCD, you might enjoy this guys commentary more than the comic itself. XKCD has devolved into cubicle wallpaper referencing obscure concepts that appeal to a niche crowd. By appealing to an educated audience, he gives the impression that his jokes must only be funny to a those with a highly refined comedic sense. They pretty much all fall into one of four buckets:

1. I know about something specific to the field of math/science/internet.
2. I am a quirky person.
3. I made a graph/chart.
4. Some words can mean more than one thing.

Yeah, I get that it can be fun being part of the in-joke, but holy crap enough is enough. You can't just make references to things and call it comedy. Remember those shirts at http://www.snorgtees.com/? Yeah, they're annoying. You like a videogame? Cool. You like a sports team? Right on. You like some 80s cartoon? Fine. You want to throw some pretentious crap in everyone's face just to demonstrate how smart you are? You're an asshole. Go back to Reddit.

I find most xkcd's enjoyable. The fact someone has created and puts time into updating an entire website based on what I'm guessing is jealousy of them, is pretty hilarious.

I wouldn't call it jealousy. People bash celebrities all the time (Justin Bieber) and I doubt it's some sort of strange manifestation of envy.

And yes, I agree that he isn't shoving his comic in anyone's face. Sure if I don't like it, I don't have to read it. I recently took it off the old Google Reader because one funny joke in 100 comics is a pretty weak ratio. Just my opinion, so whatevs.

I'm just saying that if he made the exact same jokes only the subject matter were references to obscure celebrity gossip instead of obscure theories in physics, people wouldn't give two craps. The comic just exploits the nerd community the same way Big Bang Theory does.
