Brian please post the resolution of the laptop dock issue.

It got even weirder.

It seems to be a power/heat issue. When the laptop is on an offending dock, it seems to prevent fans from running which causes the CPU to heat up and automatically downclock to prevent overheating. Also, the battery does not charge.

Here's the weird part...I put the laptop on a known good dock (one that wasn't causing the problems). It worked fine. Ok. Then I put the laptop back on the "bad" dock. Suddenly, it worked fine there, too.

I am completely baffled as to what "fixed" the problem. I'm pretty much just going to monitor the situation and hope it doesn't come back because trying to understand what is going on here is breaking my brain.

Unless Potter's server is linking you to ads I don't see why this would happen. You should not be using a browser client on your tablet to access IRC.
I'm assuming it's Android or iOS.
Use this if it's Android: AndroIRC
If you're on iOS I actually dunno what to recommend, but I think Colloqouy, Mango IRC, and Limechat are supposed to be good. I think Mibbit might also have its own client on iTunes.

Speaking of tablets... my dad is gonna buy my mom one for xmas and wanted to know the best one for general web and maybe the additional capability of a keyboard attachment. I know the Transformer does that but I know very little about tablets overall since I've never looked. He doesn't want to spend a lot on a Surface or iPad so it seems like it's between Nexus and Transformer right ? Other better ones out there i should know about? I know nothing about Nexus.
