Re: Rent a game
Yeah, that is pretty neat. Honestly it's not a bad idea if you have a shit load of games you own privately and want to make some money off of them. Presumably as the private owner of your games you've already absorbed the sunk costs of the machines themselves and any revenue you get from renting your games out is the proverbial icing on the cake. You'll likely not make a profit from this (ie, I wouldn't buy a game just to rent it out) but at the end of the day you own the machines and once people stop renting out your shit you can go back to playing it forevs.
Riot bought DDR for I think $1,500 give or take a few hundo which means that in roughly 2 years of constant renting out of his machine he would start making a profit assuming no maintenance costs which is admittedly a big assumption.

2 year roi isn't bad, especially in this economy, and did u read the article? that's exactly what theyre doing, it's a company purchasing machines to rent out. not some private owner who got bored

My guess is the company is just some private owner.Potter wrote:2 year roi isn't bad, especially in this economy, and did u read the article? that's exactly what theyre doing, it's a company purchasing machines to rent out. not some private owner who got bored

If you "donate" your game to them you can get in on 75% of the revenue generated by your machine. I haven't read the fine print but I think you still retain ownership of the machine and can pull it from their inventory at your leisure.
That's kind of cool
