In what has to be the single most twisted name for any videogame ever, the 17th release in the Pop'N Music series has been announced.

The game test will happen at the end of the month and the projected release is February next year.

That is true, but I should also mention that while SF2: TM was based upon an actual movie this isn't.

It might take a while since they have to port the new engine. IIDX had a delay between 8th CS and 9th CS despite having 7th and 8th CS already delayed anyway. I'm guessing it'll also take a while to get GF/DM V4 out. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if DDR X US CS runs on a completely different engine from DDR X AC and CS JP if they do in fact end up changing hardware for DDR X.

Perhaps I'm off by a style then. IIDX CS was running way behind AC back then, I know. I'm guessing it had to do with the time it took to port the new engine over. Perhaps they just spread the releases out to lessen the impact of "waiting" on that one release. I remember they caught back up shortly after 9th style CS.

The main release gap in IIDX was the 18 month window between 6th and 7th style which happened as 6th Style CS did not perform up to Konami's Expectations and there was also difficulty in getting licenses for Never Look Back and The Sound of Goodbye. (As evident by the fact that they did not appear in any other IIDX release along with More Deep 2.1) Another side effect of this was that due to a survey Konami had people take about 7th Style's release, most of the extra features in the series were done away and the games became alot more like the arcade counterparts than before. (For those not in the know, 6th style had Tatsujin Vids, a Drill Mode, and a Music Video Mode.)

Pop'N 17 came out and there were some shock decisions.

First, most of the songs from BeForU, dj Nagureo, and Hiroshi Takeyasu (probably best known for Prince on a Star and Ska A Go Go) got pulled from this release. Also, both North and Mighty Guy got pulled despite debuting on 16 for reasons I honestly cannot figure out. The one thing that really shocked me was that Anime Hero R got pulled which was the boss song in Pop'N 2.

To make this a even weirder release, Infinity Of Our Love and The Smile of You from Elebits are on this (lgolem will love that since it's Nekomata Master) and somehow Battle Without Honor or Humanity (Famous for it's use in Kill Bill) made the jump from Console debut to a full arcade song. Sometime in the next 2 months the boss songs and hell 17 course should appear which given what happened last time (Toy Contemporary, nuff said) will probably be something rather frightening.
