I saw more Jubeat cabs in Taiwan than trash cans. I'm not making this up. But I did try to spend as much time in the arcades as I could. LikeableRodent is probably right, but I wouldn't mind it for a while. It seems better than no-access.

What happened in my case is that Bemani was a very social endeavor (hell, it was the basis of my social life the latter half of high school and all of college). When I first go to Japan I was hoping that I might be able to repeat the same formula as before, but when I went to the arcade there were multiple walls in the way that prevented said formula being as successful.

With the social aspect gone it lost most of its luster, so I picked up different hobbies.

That is actually very similar to my experience. The social aspect was the biggest draw for me. I still enjoy having people over to play Bemani games with me, but I have little motivation to play them by myself.
