Wish I could go hear a bunch of 30 year old nerds run their guitars through synthesizers and computers.
I'm just kidding. It does look fun.

I really love CS:GO's 64 tick servers.

Maaaaaan, I paid $60 to play music games in my hometown at Gen Con and I'll be god damned if I have to spend $400 to play music games in our nation's capital.
The only thing I'm slightly upset about is that I could have had Chad buy me like generic tickets at Gen Con and I would have only had to play $20 to play the games I always play.

This brings up a good point. What the hell is there to do at MAGFest anyway?Merk wrote:Maaaaaan, I paid $60 to play music games in my hometown at Gen Con and I'll be god damned if I have to spend $400 to play music games in our nation's capital.

* Concerts - http://magfest.org/performers Metroid Metal, VGO, and Yuzo Koshiro should be awesome.
* Bamani - Bemani Invasion will be there.
* Arcade - http://magfest.org/arcade 150 games. I miss being a child.
* Tournaments - For those that want to win at Street Fighter.
* Cosplay - If you're into that sort of thing.
* General Con things like a dealer art area, tabletop gaming, 6,000 nerds, and probably a lot of booze.
* Only 20 minutes from DC if there's anything you'd like to see in our Nation's capitol.
If you don't like going to cons, I doubt you'll enjoy this one. If you do like going to cons, this is one that shouldn't be missed.
Also Merk, why are you slightly upset about having to pay for a con that you attended?
Re: MAGFest 11 Jan 3 - 6
I am 90% committed to this event. What does this mean?
- I would like to go.
- I should be able to go.
- I have not yet worked out any of the details for going.
So, the 10% of uncertainty is to account for any potential issues with points 2 and 3 above that I have not yet realized or anticipated.
Overexplained? Yes.

Re: MAGFest 11 Jan 3 - 6
Damn, Nick is all over it!
Here's some questions for you:
1. Are there a lot of hotels within walking distance from the convention center? It is hard to tell from looking at Google Maps. Do most people stay in the convention center?
2. Does the Metro run to or nearby the convention center? If not, how do people normally get to DC and back? Bus? Cab?
3. Any general tips for people that haven't been to MAGFest?
4. Which character from the Streets of Rage series is your favorite?
Thanks.

1. There are a couple other hotels in immediate walking distance of the gaylord, however our event rate (http://magfest.org/getaroom) may actually be lower than the other hotels in the areaFluffyumpkins wrote:Damn, Nick is all over it!

2. Branch avenue is the closest station, and the NH1 bus line then runs from branch ave to national harbor. I think the NH1 bus line only runs until 11pm, though. Check http://magfest.org/directions for relevant links
3. There are a lot of different tips, especially since we ourselves suck at distilling information.
A. pre-register to save yourself a few bucks, then pick up your badge at the pre-registration desk when you arrive
B. Make sure to grab a schedule from the reg desk, or download our Guidebook application to your smartphone. We do not have printed program books.
C. All consoles, arcades, and boardgames are free to play, and open 24 hours. Let our staff know if you ever would like a game swapped out.
D. As friendly as our crowd is, MAGFest is a lot more fun in groups than it is by yourself. Use us as your next community gathering since we're a great setting for a party.
E. Main stage concerts are about 6pm-midnight every day, with chiptune sets before hand, and dj sets afterward. There is also a second stage during the day with more bands, and a jamspace stage which is open mic.
F. Try to get sleep and plenty of water.
G. We try not to take anything seriously. This includes tournaments, cosplay, or anything else where people compete. You'll get no sympathy from us if you're a pretentious dickbag.
4. G. Signal all the way.

Wish MAGFest was road-trip friendly, then maybe I would be able to go.

Re: MAGFest 11 Jan 3 - 6
It seems like an awesome time, just don't know if I can really make the trip or not. I also need some more pull to really want to go. I really would love to go just for the puzzle tournaments and, hopefully, win the Dr. Mario one. For fun, I should make a huge chain necklace of my Louisville Arcade Expo 1st place plaque and wear it during the tourney and seem like someone of real importance, despite the fact.

Re: MAGFest 11 Jan 3 - 6
Hopefully will get the chance to welcome you folks next year, I didn't see any active MAGfest threads!
The Kentucky guy who posts in an Indiana forum? Don't feel bad, I'm from Virginia!
BTW MAGfest this year was AWESOME. I missed Machinae Supremacy's performance due to getting badly ill and spending that evening in hospital, but I bounced back and still had a blast!
I'm a frequent volunteer, and love to play the rhythm games at MAGfest! Next year, hopefully I might be able to help with logistics, since I'm local to the area, and can give advice if anyone needs it.
Cheers!
