Time Warp
Time Warp
Some of you have probably already noticed that some posts are appearing out of sequential order and with unusual time stamps.
I'm not exactly sure what happened, but at one point this afternoon some people appeared to login at some point in the future. When they posted messages, they got stamped with the time the system thought they were logged in. Meanwhile, other people with correct login times also posted.
The system sorts threads by date/time, so posts from people posting "from the future" appear after other posts even if they were actually made later in real time. This is why some posts will seem out of order and why some posts exist with times that haven't happened yet.
I'm not really sure what went wrong. Some of you may have noticed that the board was off for awhile. MonMotha and I were troubleshooting during this time. Eventually we just reset things to clear out all of the corrupted logins. It seems to have solved the problem. Everything should be completely back to normal once we get past the time of the "latest" post with a bogus time stamp. At this point, that's just a few more hours.
I suppose I could re-stamp the problem posts, but I don't really feel like it. Besides, they'll serve as historical evidence of our little rip in the space-time continuum.
So there you have it. No big conspiracy...it just seems to be a garden variety glitch.

Given the times (4PM becoming 9PM), it looks like the host accidentally set the server time to UTC without setting the option to tell apps that was the case, leaving the forum software thinking everything was peachy local time, not offset by +5 to make EST into UTC (the host is in Atlanta).
The flaw appears to have been corrected quickly with a momentary reversal of +/- 5 (giving a couple timestamps at around 2AM), but sessions logged in kept their old times until they expired. All sessions were manually terminated to correct this, so it's possible that some people using the auto-login option may need to log back in. Sorry for any inconvenience.

A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.
