What you fail to realize, is that maijuana kills brain cells.
And I, for one, do not want to be in a public, enclosed place,
such a restaurant, and be breathing in marijuana smoke.

HELLO. I need my brain, thank you. I don't wanna wind up
a fucking burn out just from going to pizza hut, k thnx.

You may think people have a right to smoke, yeah. They can do it
somewhere else.
I have a right to breath air that isn't going to eat my brain.

Why, because I don't want to smoke pot?
If you want to, fine. I really, really don't care.
But I sure as am not going to subject myself to it.
That's all I'm saying, and it's perfectly fair.

I have had many intelligent, normal friends over the years who smoke pot. It certainly doesn't have any negative side-effects when used casually, that I have ever seen.

But I have also seen what happens to people who do lots and lots of pot, day after day after day. Your actions get slower, your speech gets slurred, you become... well, a pothead.

I've never had a desire to smoke pot; for one thing, it's illegal and I wouldn't want to get caught, and it's unregulated, so you never know what you might actually be getting. It's certainly not dangerous in the way other harder drugs are, but I just prefer my brain to stay the way it is....

They're right when they say that marijuana in small and moderate doses doesn't harm you terribly. You might lose a few brain cells, but you lose brain cells every time GoR hits you in the head, Sin.

I'm not saying this in premitting the use of narcotics, but if you're going to smoke pot, whatever. I'll use my money on what I want, you use your money on what you want. Just keep it away from everybody else. There are a lot of reasons why one may not want to be around a drug like marijuana. While some may be tempted, I think a lot of the people that don't want to be around it are people like Sin and myself that just don't want that kind of thing in their system because they hold themselves in a different regard. Not saying a higher regard. Just a different one.

As for the smoking ban... I have a friend that picked up smoking recently, and every restaurant we go to, we have to have a smoking section. Which basically leaves us for Omega, IHOP, or take out that we eat in the car. I think it's pretty lame, honestly, that we're stuck in these few places because he just HAS to have a smoke. I love hanging out with him, because he's one of my very good friends, but I hate it that when I leave his company, I smell like an ashtray. Since he's my only friend that smokes, I know that nobody else around me wants to smell me like that.

Just my two cents. A bit about marijuana, and a thought about smoking.

Yeah, smoking marijuana in moderation isn't dangerous on the level of other drugs. What I'm really saying, is I don't want to go somewhere, and wind up getting stoned because I'm in a restaurant filled with marijuana smoke. It may not have any long term effect on me, but I don't want to be high, plain and simple. I like my brain functioning on a normal level...not higher, not lower. Just the way it is.
If you wanna smoke pot, you can do it somewhere in private.
I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying don't do it around me.

Well said.

That's kind of how I feel about having to sit in the smoking section when I hang out with Luke.

If I wanted to breathe in smoke, I'd smoke my own damn cigarette.

SMOKERS OF THE BOARD: Is it really that hard to hold in the urge or go outside for a moment when you want to smoke a cigarette?

I'm all about banning smoking in public places, even if that does mean the glassed-in, separate smoking rooms in establishments, but I know that taking those away would put children in a smoking family in a worse situation than if they had those rooms (a.k.a. parents smoking with kids in an enclosed car, as opposed to smoking in an open room).

Can't Luke wait until after you guys eat to give himself lung cancer? Or do it before? It seems foolish to limit your choices, just so he can smoke during the meal itself.

See, that's what I think, too. And seriously, if he needs a break in the middle, I don't mind if he tells me and then scampers off outside. Doesn't bother me at all.

But seriously, the last time we went out for lunch, I wanted to go to a second story sandwich shop in Auburn. It's girly, but Luke is gay, XP, whatevs. We wouldn't be up there long, but I knew they didn't have a smoking section, and he didn't want to go. We ended up going to a little place in Leo. They didn't have a smoking section, either, but the waitress was nice enough to give him an ashtray and let us sit in a back party room thing. -.-

I usually only want a cigarette after I eat, I can't see much need for a smoking section in restaurants, really. However, drinking and smoking simply go hand in hand; as Chad put it, bars should be like an adult playground, whatever goes goes. I wouldn't care about being fenced into a glass booth for the duration; stepping outside is fine when it's decent out, but smoke breaks take a new air of desperation when it's frosty.

Also, a random tidbit; I haven't met a single person who smokes with all of their car windows shut. I wouldn't even enjoy that. For that matter, a car with the smoker's window cracked (assuming you're going around or above say, 30 mph) will create a drafting effect and draw the smoke straight out the window.

pot in moderation isn't bad, just too many people abuse it.
If you are going to smoke, wait. If you are in a restaurant, go outside. DONT STAND AT THE DOOR! I'm tired of going into buildings where there's a giant smokescreen built up under the overhang right in front of the door.

I agree, a bar is an adults playground. If you can get absolutely blitzed, you should able to enjoy a cigarette.

Yeah, I don't care about smoking in bars. Just public places in general, namely restaurants and the like.

Like Clint says, it's bull shit when you have to go out in 15 degree temperatures to smoke a damn cigarette. They should at least have small shelter houses or something where the smokers can go.
