What music should I play [At United Skates][Eastside]?
Moderator: Moderators
You'll need to learn the rap thing.
Glad to hear they finnally hired someone with good taste in music.
If you are working at the westside of united skates location you will need to learn the rap stuff. Especially if you work the nightshift. Not really an option, just so you don't piss people off. Obviously you can throw other stuff in, but you will need to keep the masses happy.
Good luck MR. Grubb

Best Christian rock group i know of is Skillet. My first job was working in a skating rink as a floor guard so I know what kind of music is fun to skate to and what isn't. basically anything with a good driving beat is good. If you can dance to it, you can skate to it.
Some skillet songs that may be worth looking in to are Savior, Forsaken, Open Wounds, and The Thirst is Taking Over. These all have a good rock feel to them and savior and open wounds get radio play.
If you have Aqua in the mix (as sickening as it is) you really need the song Candyman in there. my favorite Aqua song ever (omg i hate myself for having a favorite Aqua song)
and although it is somewhat innuendo, Sir Mix A Lot's "Baby got back" is infinitely fun rink song. you might be able to play it on your "adult life"
If you ever wanna get together with me and chat about it some more, my aim sn is "gumby wrestler" I remember most of the stuff my rink always played. Good luck with the job.

"strange music" is different for every person... for example, for me, strange/weird music is christian rock and this.. "candy techno"Ebola Gay wrote:Well, that no strange music thing blew me outta the water, that's all I listen to.Grubb wrote:3. Strange Music / Video Game Stuff.
This isn't acutally a rule of the company. It's just kind of an obvious rule. Most people arn't going to like it if I start playing stuff like "All your base are belong to us!"
You could give Pizzicato 5 a go, but they kinda fall in the strange catagory. Same with Busdriver, though he is west coast hip-hop, so give that sucka a shot. You should anyway, because he's awesome.
it sucks you have to be all politically correct... if it were me, i'd play whatever i want.
hell, take requests for a while and see what people want to hear, then decide what's playable and what's not.

YMCA couldn't hurt.
Maybe that old 'ride the train' song from quad city DJs.
'Whoop there it is' maybe.
More lame dance stuff like that, "What is love" song that was in SNL all the time. "A Night At The Roxbury".
Check out the playlist in a bunch of 'now that's what I call music" cds. While you're at it, look at those ultimate dance party cds. Learning from other DJs isn't a bad idea.
When we throw frat parties, I make the playlists off http://www.billboard.com . Gives me a way to get all that top 40 c*ap without actually having to listen to the radio.

Yeah, I'm working at the one on the Eastside.JB wrote:Glad to hear they finnally hired someone with good taste in music.

I'll still have to play rap and all that occationally. But the reason they hired me was because I know everykind of music besides rap, pretty much.
I suppose I don't really know Polka that well though...
...or J-Pop, like a lot of you people are into.
Oh well, I guess there are a few things I'm missing.
But for the most part, yeah.

True, I liked a lot of thier other songs better, and I don't think it was meant to give justice to Floyd in the traditional sense.SoDeepPolaris wrote:I like alot of their album, but I did not like their cover of Comfortably Numb, it did not do the Floyd justice.Fagulous wrote:Ever hear of the scissor sisters?
Thier cover of Comfortably Numb, sounds like the Bee Gees are singing it.
I think it was supposed to be a bit of a parody or sorts.
They already have "YMCA" and "Whoop! There it is"Fluffyumpkins wrote:YMCA couldn't hurt.

Also, we're already sent CDs each month, keeping our playlist fully stocked with the popular stuff that's totally whored on the radio.
Anyway, just to make things a little more clear...
Some of the songs you guys have been suggesting don't really fit the criteria. And things like Heavy Meta and music that's too dark and rough around the edges just doesn't work at a rollerskating rink at all.
However, I really do appricate the suggestions! They're helping a ton. I've more than doubled my playlist already. I'm like, on a feeding frenzy for music now!
MORE MORE!

The Eastside location! That one hasn't had as much of a turnover in management and has much steadier program. Once again another A1 choice by the Grubb.Grubb wrote:Yeah, I'm working at the one on the Eastside.JB wrote:Glad to hear they finnally hired someone with good taste in music.

You know one could always just pay for Dsl/cable and set the station on a DJ mix station. (Especially handy if you feel like being lazy)
