Video Editing and Moviemaking

Post by ShammerS »

I have recently (within the past year or so) become fascinated with the complexity and overall geniusness that involves making a movie, including the processes of filming, capturing, and editing; be it in Adobe Premiere or any other video editing software.

Our school has an upcoming film festival, and the time has once again arised for me to cram as much information on the use of these programs as possible before the deadline so that I can properly edit my film.

My question is, are there any other film-editing fanatics out there? This can include Anime Music Videos (AMV's), movies, documentaries, or anything with which you would use this sort of software to use.

I know that the majority of our admin here at IndyDDR have personally assisted me in one way or another with these sort of endeavors, but I'm curious as to what sort of experiences and tips our members have. Perhaps you might even link to a work of your own?

I'm a camera whiz. I've worked at the TV station at IPFW for about 2 years, and I run camera a lot.
I'm also decent with video editing, writing, I'd like to think I can act ;), and music.

I've done a good deal of audio-only editing, production, music creation, etc. I use Adobe Audition for all my sound editing needs, and it works great.

Alas, my only video editing experience to date is creating some DVDs (essentially just menus, music and slide shows) using Roxio Easy Media Creator. My advice: STAY AWAY FROM THIS SOFTWARE! It works terribly, and the UI is atrocious. There are some other similarly priced ($99) DVD creation packages available; anyone know if any of them are better than Roxio?

Good luck with your project!

So to answer, yes I am intrestd in both the world of photography and cinematography

Considering that my major is currently film/video studies and I have Premiere open right now for a project I'm working on, I'll say that yeah, I have an interest in the arts of the moving picture.

As for tips? Meh. Most everything I throw together is for when I happen to have a DV cam in my hands and I suddenly get an itch to go make some random video, for example, see what I currently have online (some of which you've probably seen):
Fantasya Time Lapse -A time lapse vid I felt like making with my digicam
X-Japan - Crucify -Music Video
Inanimate Love -Very short experiment with stop-motion animation
White Teacher QQQ -Slightly longer foray into stop-motion animation. It was for a class project based on a book, so you probably won't understand what's going on.
Purdue 2003-2004 -Compilation of photos/video from the 2003-2004 school year
Ho Birthday 2005 -Compilation of stuff from Ho's birthday
Fort Wayne DDR Tour -Compilation from going to a bunch of Fort Wayne DDR machines with Teddy

That's not all, but it's a good start. Hopefully I'll get around to making actual serious things instead of my current method of doing whatever pops into my head at a specific moment.

I have an interest in movie making, but not really a lot of experience. However, I write scripts, storyboards, do designs and other such things.
I'd love to actually make a movie, though....it's on my things to do before I die list, and I'd actually love to do the aforementioned act as a career if the opportunity came around.
If any of you guys ever get serious about making a movie, and need a writer, let me know. I usually write in the Horror or stream of consciousness type areas, but I can write almost anything if given a purpose.

You obviously know I am mad about video editing. I've been in the AMV community for around 5 years now. It's been one of the most enriching and fun hobbies that I've ever taken up :)

You should talk to David Yip. I've been meaning to get him to make an account here (he goes to Rose too). I'll see if I can get him on here for you.

I make clip videos some times but I don't use anything too high end, mainly just iMovie. I tried working with Final Cut once, but it seemed too complex for what I was using it for. here is the video downloads page for my crappy site. "Happyfuntime" and the worlds(WYYC) videos are probably my best on there.
Sorry I suck so bad :P

I too have been interested in video making for quite some time. I've made animations that tell stories using 3ds max. I've made little promotions using live video for things at school, but I've never really done a movie movie. I've been wanting to make a music video to a few songs... but I've just never got around to doing it.

Hi! MonMotha dragged me here. :)

I do video stuff every now and then, and have worked with Cinelerra, Blender, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, and After Effects, in order of decreasing familiarity.

Was that in response to my comment? o_O You know I know David :P

And yes, everybody welcome Trythil. He's a great editor, and knows more about the technical side of video/editing than probably anybody else I know.

It was more or less in response to the thread as a whole. I was pretty sure you knew David; he certainly knew of you. Some of the stuff both of you have done is really pretty impressive, even though I'm not a big AMV fan.

I make skate videos/edits(rollerblade, not skateboard). Unfortunately, 10 of my old ones got deleted.

Programs I use are Premiere Pro(kind of a newbie to it, but NOT to photoshop or illustrator or image ready), Windows Movie Makers(for quick things, intros and such), and various other minor programs.

I need a better camcorder though, my Sony DV isn't cutting it.

Anyone wanna pay for a GL1 for me? Please?
I really love CS:GO's 64 tick servers.
