I've got 2 tats so far, and I'm saving up for my 3rd. I've got the Kanji for "death" on my right biscep (it's massive and ran for $250...only cause the procedure took 3 hours and a TON of black ink), and I recently got the Japanese character for "Family" on my back (That one was for $75 and it's tiny compared to the one on my arm). I'm hoping to get a few more tats designed and approved (all Army soldiers have to get tattoos approved before they get them because of the potential to get offensive tats....which the Army also pays to get removed at $10,000 a tat...but still...it scars and hurts like a bizzzzznitch from what I heard). I plan on getting a wrap-around on my arm of my name in Katakana, and a design for my back...maybe a Thug Life Tat across my belly too...IDK....
Agreed, there are so many people who have "Kanji" tatoos, that are completely wrong. or just mirrored, and then mean nothing. Most of the time, tatooists take "artistic freedom" with the language.Spazz wrote:I just wanna know if you have personal knowledge going into the tattoo, rather than what someone claims is the correct character.

This person who just thought a character looked cool so he got it tattooed on his leg... well it means excrement (feces)... I doubt he knew that.
Hanzi Smatter (http://www.hanzismatter.com/) is an amazing site that makes fun of the miuse of chinese (japanese kanji) characters. You can see how 90% of them are tatoos

one of my favorites: http://www.hanzismatter.com/2005/12/ding-dong.html
just be careful

i dunno..yeah, the tatts are corny but i don't se why that matters...the person chose what they wanted because it has meaning to them. who cares if the rest of the world sees it differently, it means that special something to the person wearing it...much better then getting a tatt because everyone else says it looks good imo
insert code compile execute return
I see what you're coming from... but you've never laughed at Engrish.com? It's sometimes completely wrong spellings or grammar, and sometimes photoshopped... but the point is theresam wrote:the person chose what they wanted because it has meaning to them. who cares if the rest of the world sees it differently

Now if you see someone walking down the street with that bag/purse thing, don't tell me if you read that you'd laugh. Or if some punk walks up and he has feces tatooed across his forehead?

(but DJ Karl Death and Family are fairly hard to screw up, so I'm not saying anything bad about yours. it's mostly when people try to get complex english words that don't translate well into japanese but still only want 2 symbols)

I've seen the one on his arm; it is indeed the correct kanji...Spazz wrote:So can you actually speak/read/write Nipponese? Or are you just going with whatever flash you can pull down off of the wall?
I don't mean it to be totally smartassed... I just wanna know if you have personal knowledge going into the tattoo, rather than what someone claims is the correct character.
haha I wasnt gonna say anything...figured you would say it for me.Spazz wrote:So can you actually speak/read/write Nipponese? Or are you just going with whatever flash you can pull down off of the wall?

dang it! I was soooo ready to get the "Black Whispering Shinobi Master" tat this weekend (2 kanjii limit though...I'm on a budget).
I'm thinking of doing the Viva la Bam thing and getting a math problem on my leg...maybe 9x0=9 or something

actually.. if I did get a tat, I'd just have it say pizza, in plain Times new roman text.... I'm sure I'd get a couple questions about it.

I wanted to get this on my back months ago...

I actually wanted to manipulate the picture some so that the phoenix would curl into something like a wing. And then I would get a mirror of it on the other side. I hadn't decided on size yet. Or if I really wanted to make them into wings or not....
Either way, I decided not long after I found and fell in love with the picture that I wasn't going to get it as a tattoo. That it's too expensive and that I don't have that kind of money to throw around on something that I'm not even positive that I want.
Whenever I think of a tattoo, though, that's the only one I can see getting. And it still hasn't left my mind.
So I guess we'll see...
