I was never that cool when I was a kid. I just wore a stupid hat and listened to Weird Al. If I could turn back time :[

I really like Married With Children.

Code: Select all

KELLY: Yeah. So I've got this book report for tomorrow on Moby Dick, and I've been, like,
reading it for an hour, and I got stumped on something. Could you help me?

AL: What?

KELLY: Call who Ishmael?

Should I put something under ddr machine in its room so it doesn't totally jack up the carpet? What would be the best thing or material to use? Seems like a lot of weight that might ruin it (not that it's particularly nice).

I'm not sure what you could put under it that wouldn't cause your carpet to get little DDR machine indents. I suppose a slab of wood might work but that's probably more trouble than it's worth. Your future DDR room isn't very big at all so in the event you really wanted to replace the carpet you could do it yourself on the cheap.

I mean, the most damage a DDR machine could do is leave little indents on your carpet not unlike a bed or heavy cabinet or whatever. It's probably better that the machine is on carpet since that's easier to replace than something like hardwood and much less expensive.

Or you could get those little squishy, puzzle-piece-shaped floor tiles for children.

This. If you're super duper worried then this might be the way to go. I'm sure that as a teacher you'd have access to these.

You're going to crush the carpet underneath the feet and/or wheels of the machine, and I doubt it will recover after the machine has been there for a while. The carpet and pad underneath where my machines have been is compressed down practically flat with the floor. Putting something under it is not likely to help this in the long run. Those squishy tiles are just going to get flattened like the carpet/pad. A board will just mean you have a big flat area rather than 4 small ones.

If the board was sufficiently large, you might distribute the weight out, but remember that we're talking about a 500 lb. cabinet and a 450 lb. stage that two people jump on. Let's be realistic about the durability of residential carpet. Surely you've seen the irrevocable dents left by beds, dressers, couches, etc.

Beyond the flattening, expect that the carpet around (and probably underneath) the machine (especially the stage) is going to get dirty.

But, Ho, it will be funnier in the long run if he actually gets the kiddy tiles.

I love those things. I keep them in front of games you stand at for a long time...it's a little easier on the feet, knees, etc. :)

I often wonder if this site will ever die.

Who does everyone think is going to be the first real ass IndyDDR poster to die?
