Get less than two greats and I'll do more than just placate you Brian ;3

Ok, I ran through Moon and got 77 greats with 2 goods. Then I cranked it up to x1.5 and got 44 greats and then 21 greats.

I decided to move on to KI-SE-KI. Here's what I got:
105,4,4,4
90,5,2,3
56,3,3,2

What did I learn? It's kind of hard. Fortunately the week is young. I'll be happy just to combo it by the end of the week.

Anyway, I decided to take another crack at Moon before hanging it up for the night. I got 18. So that is the score I'll submit for last week. At least I made my goal.

Brian, I know you're prideful in your 1x default noteskin style of playing but you really need to switch over to the standard 2x Solo/Rainbow noteskin mod setup. I know you think it's easier for you to do it your way but I promise you its not and that you'll get such better scores if you switch. It will take a little bit of getting used to at first but it will help you out in the long run. You want your scroll speed to be a fast as possible but not too fast to the point where you can't react to the next arrow without bar raping; for me and for most people this is a 350bpm scroll rate.

It has nothing to do with pride. As you should have noticed in my post, I did use a speed mod and did score better. x1.5 is plenty fast for me on both of these songs. I tend to read a little slower scroll than most. Just trust me that Solo is absolutely no help for me whatsoever. I've tried it in the past and did consistently worse.

It's not an inability for me to read the type of step. I read it and understand it just fine in Vivid and most of the time in Flat. It's simply my own internal timing and physical ability/inability that holds me back from SDGs or AAAs. With more practice, I could probably improve (and I have...if you look at my DD:Recall history). The more I play, the better my scores tend to get.

However, scoring well has really only ever been a peripheral priority at best, so it's just not something that I practice for specifically--nor do I really care to. I'm more interested in just playing to be social, have fun, and stay active. Any skill-based goals are generally just in the realm of can I pass Song X or not?

Brian you should play for score it really adds a whole new dimension to the game. I know you say you don't care, but you should. You don't even have to be a competitive boner about it either - it's fun to see yourself improve over time (like you have) and take stupid over / under bets like Chad and I do.

I'm just saying, if I'm going to sink any significant amount of time into anything I want to get better at said activity in the most efficient way possible. If you want my help on timing let me know.

Like I said, I naturally get better the more I play. That is all the satisfaction I require in that department. The other three things I mentioned are wildly more important to me.

Welp! Sorry to keep you all in the dark but I played a little bit on Thursday and the best I could muster was 17 greats. Chad and I played at his house on Friday and he was able to get 14 greats while I did not improve. This song is quite the mofo for an 8.

With that being said, Chad has won this week and we're back to being tied. What did we learn this week?

- No one knows how to pronounce the name of this song. (Is it "kee - say - kee" or "ke - sek - ee"?)
- DDR was better when they didn't play music videos in the background
- Brian is easily distracted by music videos
- Pump It Up is still loud as hell at GXS and random people really like playing it
- We all have busy lives and I am sometimes too distracted to post scores on a message board

Let's put this week behind us and start this week fresh with a brand new song!

Seerect a myuzik.

I would characterize my pronunciation as lazy. I have no idea if it is correct.

:( I likes them. Although I prefer original videos created for the game to just using the music video for the song. Although in the case of BeForU, their music videos wouldn't exist without the game.

I never ended up playing KI-SE-KI again after Monday. I agree it is quite a little toughie for an 8.

I certainly don't wish to dominate song selection for this event, but I do have a suggestion. How about Seduction? It's another 8, but I just looked at the chart and it looks a lot more 8-ish than KI-SE-KI save for a couple of little scroll gimmicks. Feel free to ignore this and pick something else if you would rather let someone else have choice this week.

While we're on the subject of songs that came from a CS mix... After further thought, I think you were right on about Max(period), Merk. That's the song I was thinking that has a "Paranoia break" in it. I'm not sure why I was thinking it had happened on an AC mix song.

Meanwhile, I think my hip joint is still busted from Monster Tree. :P

I'll let the peanut gallery have a chance of picking a song. If we don't get any other suggestions before 4pm today then we'll do Seduction for this week. I recall not being a huge fan of this song :/

Oh Brian... I like to think I know what I'm talking about when it comes to music game songs and their charts. We should have bet on this!

You are a silly goose. I'm sorry your hip hurts.

This was not a good post I'm sorry I feel kind of out of it today.

I am apparently good at picking songs you don't like. ;)

Though I will say that the reasons I pick them have nothing to do with that--and often have nothing to do with the songs themselves either. I just remember Sam playing Seduction at a DDR-A-Thon so, so long ago. That's really the only reason I even thought of it.

I'd like to get back to themed song picks like My Summer Love was, but I couldn't think of a song having to do with hip pain. :P

We better make this week a good one because we might have to take a hiatus next week while Chad and I are in Vegas.

Sorry, Merk. I'll try to make my next suggestion themed. You seemed to like it when I did that.

Oh yeah, having themed weeks seemed appropriate.

It's seemingly more likely that we'll have an off week next week so I was thinking that the first week of August should have some sort of theme to make reference to Gencon. The only appropriate song I can think of would be Tino's White Horse.
