Now, let's get back to making the mood of this thread match the mood of the season: jovial and happy.
AHEM! Boys! If you want to do this kind of crap, take it OUT of the happy Winter Holiday thread!!!
I like you both, but this is really getting on my nerves that we can't even have a decent CHRISTMAS thread without a small flaming battle going on!
Potter: You were right in the fact that people had probably seen it before. Still, since it fits the topic, and someone, just someone, might NOT have seen it (i.e. Me), it's worth posting.
Grubb: You were right that the post shouldn't have been so biting and sarcastic, but fighting back in this way always escalates these kind of arguments. Exhibit A - infinity: Any other thread in this forum.
There! You're both right, and you're both acting stupid at the same time. Can we PLEASE get on with discussing the holiday season and the spirit it brings? You know, "peace on Earth and goodwill toward men (ahem, women, too)"?

Oh my. I go away for a couple days, and look what happens.
Jesus Christ, it's like you guys need a fucking babysitter to keep from going at each others' throats.
Yume's right. You're both right, but you're both being stupid, in some aspects. I don't expect you guys to be best buddies and apologize to each other, but cut it out already. If you really want to keep up this childish squabble, take it to PMs. But I suggest that it just ends. It's silly and pointless. Your internet penises aren't getting any bigger.
It's a Christmas/holiday thread, please start treating it like one. Unless you guys are trying to give each other asskickings as holiday gifts this year, I don't want to hear anything else about it.
On a completely different note, has anybody seen the Honda commercial where instead of "we wish you a merry Christmas," they sing "we wish you a happy holiday"? That just steams me. It's okay that you don't believe in Christmas. But if you're going to put a song on a commercial, don't blatantly change the words to make it all PR. "We wish you a happy holiday" is reaping huge benefits off of the well-known tune of merry Christmas original.
I know that there are a lot of people here with different beliefs. I was raised Christian, although I'm not sure what I believe now. But I still see this huge "holiday" craze as ridiculous.
Even where I work, we're not allowed to say "Christmas" in our holiday greetings. If we do and upset a customer, it's all on our shoulders and we're entirely responsible for whatever happens.
Doesn't that seem a bit rash?

Quite.
It people like this that piss me off the most. I know the world is seeming to go crazy with the whole seperation of church and state thing, which I can let go, but to bring Christmas into it is just way too much.
Everywhere I go now, there's always 1 person that talks about how much he hates Christmas and how much it offends them. They go all out complaining to all of the courts about how much this holiday offends them, simply because of what it stands for. If you don't belive in Christianity, then don't. No one's making you. But leave Christmas alone. It has always been good the way it is, and to suddenly change it because of a few people worthless opinions is just retarded. But that's just my .02.

Merry Christmas!!!
Ha-ha! In your faces! I'm not Christian and I'm wishing you a merry CHRISTMAS!
What now, huh? HUH???
No, seriously. Merry Christmas. Happy Hannukah. Happy Kwanzaa. Happy Yule.
No matter what you celebrate, tis indeed the season to be jolly!

Though I agree with your arguement, I watch enough sports and have seen this way to many damn times. They say "We wish you a happy 'honda-days' " Its their promotion right now.
/end know-it-all post
But i do agree! last year I deliberately told everyone I rang up at Target "Merry Christmas" even after we were told not to, so I hear ya.

People that bitch to the courts about Christmas and PR are just in it for the attention, and 'because they can.'
A little known fact, is that the holiday season actually predates christmas. Christmas was yule, and the celebration of the winter solstace. Jesus was born in the spring/summer (I don't remember the date), and christmas as we know it is simple a celebration put on by the church to honor the birth of christ...it's not actually his birthday.
So, if you're gonna bitch about christmas offending you because it's christs birthday....first of all, you're just plain wrong. It's not. Secondly, you've got a lot of other religions to go through before you even GET to christianity. The pagans had it first...where do you think a lot of the christmas traditions came from? It's a combination of old pagan rituals and beliefs, merged with christian ones. And now, we have....well. The largest commercial holiday in the history of the planet.
Enjoy.

It's really sad how people can't just ignore it if they don't believe in it. I've been told to have a happy chanukah by my jewish friend and I didn't sit there and scream at him because I didn't celebrate it.
The people who complain and take it to court are bitter people who probably should be shot in the head or something. I hate when one person has to run into the party and start exploding fecal matter everywhere just because they didn't RSVP.
In reality, when you say merry christmas to someone, you are not saying: "I AM A CHRISTIAN!!!! LISTEN TO ME AND IF YOU DO NOT CONVERT I WILL FREAKING KILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY"
They are simply wishing that you have a good holiday season. Why do many schools refer to the break in the winter as christmas break? Some people refer to Christmas as a season, and in this sense it should not be taken so harshly.
I respect everyone's beliefs, but it's when people get angry at you for hoping they have a good winter season that I get pissed off. Because it was in good intent, but there will always be that one person, like I said earlier, that has the need to throw the fecal matter. Is it for attention? is it to show that they're different? I don't know, I wish I did. If it really offends them as much as they say it does, they are very intolerant close-minded people.
I would like to say, I am not affiliated with any religion. I have beliefs, But there is too much gray area to give any definate answer to whether there is a god or not. My outlook is a more scientific one as opposed to those who blindly follow religion, those people bug me just as much as the ones who scream and cry everytime someone says christmas. I can't stand when people push religion onto other people, and try to get them to convert.
I do think there is a higher power in the universe, there is so much that science and facts just can't explain. But I do have a hard time believing alot about the stories about Jesus. I do believe that he existed, and I believe he was a great leader who inspired many people to act virtuously. Now was he magical? probably not. At least I would doubt he'd be, we can't say for sure.
Ok now that I have my religious beliefs down and you see I'm not really christian, that I fill in the missing sections of science with religion. I can wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS
BladeFist87 wrote:I deliberately told everyone I rang up at Target "Merry Christmas" even after we were told not to, so I hear ya.
More power to you, I do that at my restaurant that I work at. I don't really care what people think anymore. I'm just trying to be nice to them.
EDIT: Ok and sin got his post in before mine

I agree with what he said completely, and most christmas traditions did come from yule. Like mistletoe, hanging of the stockings (I think), the YULE log, eating a christmas ham, and even the "christmas" tree.
