Para Para is a style of choreographed line dance that is and/or has been popular in Japan. There are defined routines that go with various Eurobeat songs that involve mostly upper body/arm motions and limited footwork.
ParaParaParadise is a game by Konami that used infrared sensors to grade your ability to perform these routines. As you moved your hands and arms around inside the sensor cage, the game could tell if they were in the right locations based on the routine you were supposed to be performing.
In 2nd Mix, there was an onscreen animated character that you could follow if you didn't know the routine already. The PS2 version of the game acutally had video that you could follow. Here is an example from the PS2 version.
You'll notice that the video is played as a mirror image (text is backwards). This way you can mimic the people in the video left-to-right without having to turn it around in your head. Also, no one is actually playing in that video, so all the grades come up as "poor."

That's probably because most people in America have no concept of the routines and how you're actually supposed to "play" the game.dance1005 wrote:and everybody that's ever played it EVER looks like an idiot when they're doing it
Para Para routines are performed by both males and females in Japan. However, many of the routines are quite feminine--especially so when viewed from an American cultural perspective--and probably wouldn't be performed by guys even over there...though that has never really stopped me.dance1005 wrote:plus you have to be pretty "secure" with your masculinity to play that if you're a guy.

Yes, I rescued Westside's machine when they liquidated all their games. I enjoy the game, but it's not one I would have purchased had I not gotten a killer deal on it.SoDeepPolaris wrote:Ho has one in his basement. And no, PP has no room for PPP. It'd be too many P's.
