Yeah, it was ruled a homicide by stabbing. An arrest has already been made.

I feel like I'm qualified to bump this thread.
I:
-Rode through a ~9.0 quake yesterday
-Rode through 100+ aftershocks, some of which are 6.0+
-Was planning to go on a bike today to the city with the "burning houses" tsunami (my plans have since changed)
-Am 50 km away from a nuclear power plant that's currently in meltdown

Stupid board wasn't letting me login properly, so I stopped trying to log in via my phone... but I finally got my laptop!

Anyway, my bike is fine (whoo...). I live about 65 km from the affected plant (plus the lack of running water/empty grocery stores/no gas), so a few days ago some friends and I decided to leave the city and go west. I'm now squatting in someone's apartment with a few other people, but at least here we're about 100 km from the plant and have full utilities and semi-stocked grocery stores.

A shitton of foreigners have fled the country, but I'm going to stay here and ride it out.

Kilometers and shittons? Pick a system of measurement and stick with it or don't bother coming back.

Don't be a chode, I hope Adam makes some detailed blog posts about his experience during Quake-a-thon 2011

A shitton is a valid unit of measurement in the metric system.

Yeah... I haven't updated my blog in about a year and a half. I'm not really planning on starting it up again now.

Yeah. Stupid thing had to strike at 11:30 at night while I was sleeping.

Thing is, it's not just how much the big quakes shake that's scary--it's that they're really frickin' loud. Usually, you'll hear a loud deep rumbling both somewhere and everywhere. A few seconds later everything starts shaking. And I mean everything starts shaking. And sometimes stuff starts falling.

So imagine the sound of everything everywhere violently shaking, and on top of it the earth beneath and surrounding you is screaming out in this really loud, deep rumble. Then imagine that you were nice and naked and comfortable under your comfy warm sheets and got woken up by all this.

And that was my night.

I'm glad you're still alive.

The most violent, nude (and rude) awakening I've had lately was my cat sticking his tail in my mouth at 5:30 AM. Nothing like an earthquake, but still pretty unpleasant.
