I don't usually read the crappy forwards that people send me, but I did read one the other day, and it really interested me.

It was to all of the people that are so against "Christian holidays," and to the government that could turn in favor of taking God out of every single thing in our lives.

I don't have it all verbatum or anything, but it said something to the extent of, if we take religion out of holidays like Christmas, Easter, etc., then there would be no point in taking the time off work for the days, right? You never see the people picketing to take God out of everything complaining about having days off for the holiday break, do you? Neither do I. The email proposed that, if we were taking religious notations out of these holidays, that it would be pointless altogether to recognize the day. And that we should all just go back to work or school or whatever, because the day no longer has meaning.

It was a very interesting perspective.

As for the "honda-days" thing, I'm sorry. I heard it wrong. But frankly, I've no doubt that somebody has already changed that song from Christmas to holidays. Thank you for the clarification, though. I appreciate it.

So I'm just curious...

I celebrate my Christmas by going to a candlelight service on Christmas Eve at my church. After that, I spend time with my dad's side of the family on that eve, go home, then celebrate Christmas with breakfast and presents with my family that next morning. Then on Christmas evening, my nanny (read: grandma on my mom's side) and Vic come over (or we go over there) and we celebrate Christmas with them, too.

How does everybody else celebrate their Christmas? I'm most curious about people of other religions, but I want to hear about everybody's Christmas.

I hear that the superior model of the EBS (TM) is in great demand this year.

The Erin Baking Slave (TM) is this year's Tickle Me Elmo!

............. *runs away to hide*

*cough* I thought about heading over to your house to drop off left over cookies and candy from this weekend, but...yeah. I'll just make you new ones sometime.

'Twas the night before Christmas,
he lived all alone,
in a one bedroom house made of
plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney
with presents to give,
and to see just who
in this home did live.

I looked all about,
a strange sight i did see,
no tinsel, no presents,
not even a tree.

No stocking by mantle,
just boots filled with sand,
on the wall hung pictures
of far distant lands.

With medals and badges,
awards of all kinds,
a sober thought
came through my mind.

For this house was different,
it was dark and dreary,
i found the home of a soldier,
once i could see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping,
silent, alone,
curled up on the floor
in this one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle,
the room in such disorder,
not how i pictured
a united states soldier.

Was this the hero
of whom i'd just read?
Curled up on a poncho,
the floor for a bed?

I realized the families
that i saw this night,
owed their lives to these soldiers
who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world,
the children would play,
and grownups would celebrate
a bright Christmas day.

They all enjoyed freedom
each month of the year,
because of the soldiers,
like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder
how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas eve
in a land far from home.

The very thought
brought a tear to my eye,
i dropped to my knees
and started to cry.

The soldier awakened
and i heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry,
this life is my choice;

i fight for freedom,
i don't ask for more,
my life is my god,
my country, my corps."

the soldier rolled over
and drifted to sleep,
i couldn't control it,
i continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours,
so silent and still
and we both shivered
from the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave
on that cold, dark, night,
this guardian of honor
so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over,
with a voice soft and pure,
whispered, "carry on Santa,
it's Christmas day, all is secure."

one look at my watch,
and i knew he was right.
"Merry Christmas my friend,
and to all a good night."
This poem was written by a Marine. I found it last year, and I thought I'd share it with everyone.

I have to agree with the majority of you that there's nothing wrong with saying 'Merry Christmas'. I mean, come on, Christmas has really been a secular holiday for a long, long time anyway. What does a red-suited, white-bearded guy at the north pole have to do with Jesus? NOTHING.

They're trying to take Halloween away from us too, but ironically it's the extremists on the other side of the spectrum who are doing that. At my daughter's school they can't have a 'Halloween' party, it's a 'Fall party'. UGH :x

Oh for the love of.........

For the record, I didn't say that Jesus, or whatever brand of christianity you prefer to mention is what it's all about, nor did I mean to. I just said that's the excuse that people make to go to the court system, or whatever, to end some of the familiarity that this season has brought us. I'm well familiar with how this holiday started. Geez. Seems like I'm not allowed to have beliefs and post on a DDR fourm, huh?

No one said you can't share, and I didn't see anyone opposing your statements either. I hate PC bullshit as much as anyone, and even though I'm not exactly christian, I've got nothing against christmas. I do, however, have a problem with mis-information, thus I believe people should know the truth about what it is. If you want to celebrate the birth of christ on yule, go ahead...just know that it's NOT his actual birthday.
It's kinda like when your birthday is on say, a wednsday. A lot of people just celebrate it on the weekend, because for one reason or another, it's more convenient. That doesn't make that weekend your true birthday, you just happen to celebrate it then.

Allah forbid someone shares their thoughts on a forum!
the person known as Jesus was born on October 5th

The reason why christmas is celebrated on Yule. (short version)
long time ago
Germans = pagans
vatican = dominatrix
vatican tells germans to conform.
germans say hell no and drink beer.
Vatican says it's basically the same thing.
Germans are so wasted they believe them.
Germans sober up.
Germans get pissed
Vatican claims christ was born on yule, so they can keep their traditions.
Germans are happy.
Germans begin drinking again.
Vatican dominates more.
