Well, tomorrow I should have quite a few new scores to put on VJarmy as I'm going back through 3rd-5th styles.

I have a Sony KV-30HS420, probably the best series of CRT HDTVs that I know of. I started using Xploder's HDTV Player to make my PS2 output 480p which got rid of the lag for me as it and 1080i are my native resolutions. (From what I've seen 720p also functions lagfree as my TV probably doesn't do additional video processing on that mode.)

Oh, Let me state for the record that I have a immense hatred for LCD screens currently due to horrible lag, crappy quality, and massive interlacing problems. Until I see these 3 issues resolved I won't consider them a viable solution for gaming.

In the case of Upscan Converters and/or Transcoders, I do not see them as a viable solution as I am still yet to see one that uses Component or DVI/HDMI outputs as I do not have a VGA input.

I use an LCD for IIDX, and it works just fine. The lag is BARELY noticable (certainly well less than most plasmas, DLPs, and even better than many HD CRTs in 480p/1080i mode). The only thing that has better lag is a standard res TV or my arcade monitor, both of which have none. My LCD deinterlaces reasonably well, too, though vertical resolution is not as good as it could be (which is not good for IIDX).

However, it's a high end LCD computer monitor, not a cheap LG LCD TV you buy at Best Buy for $150.

The amount of lag introduced by your TV can vary quite a bit from model to model for a given mode. Some high end HD CRTs will run native on 480i with no digital processing, giving the best performance possible. Some LCDs have horrible horrible lag in all modes, while mine seems pretty darned good in just about any mode. You really just have to find one that works given what setup you have.

I just wish that 1) IIDX had a progressive scan option, and 2) the PS2 could output usable sync when running progressive with the component outputs set to RGB.
A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.
