what are you going to make the rpg with? whatever you do DONT use visual basic. You can get away with using flash for it. I dont know if you have used RPGmaker- I haven't, but I hear it's good.

Some of those mech drawings were really good :D

Visual basic isn't a language designed for games, it's too weak, last I heard. RPG maker 2k+ are good for simple things, but you can't market them...at all, and technically, it's illegal. If you're really serious about making an RPG, I'd either learn C+, or something very similar, or wait until the next release of RPGds, which is the advanced video game making software I'm currently waiting on.

http://www.rpgds.com is the webpage, but there currently isn't a new release for it. However, from what I've used of the last stable release, it's very promising.

I have wanted to learn objective C for a while now but I've been to lazy to learn something that complicated.

I'm going to use Visual Basic.NET with imbedded C or C++. I haven't read up on the design tutorials I've found yet, but those languages are actually highly recommended, and I already know my way around VB.NET very well. It's actually a lot more useful than previous versions of VB, considering now it's object-oriented. I don't want to use any kind of "rpg maker" program, I just want to design it from scratch. It's not going to be anything I'll try to market, just a simple little game to pass around on the 'net.

VB.NET is basically just something with vaguely VB syntax wrapped around the .NET/COM API. It's completely incompatible (and quite a bit different to work with, so I'm told) than the older VBs (like VB6). If you're going to use VB.NET, you might as well just bust out VC++. Supposedly the learning curve is about the same (though the RAD form developer isn't integrated), and you're not limited by the language from performing certain tricks, though I guess it's harder to "shoot yourself in the foot".

Oh, and VB has had object support all the way back to VB4 (I actually OWN a copy of VB4 Pro). It just wasn't pushed very hard, and the object support was rather limited.
A normality test:

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.
