Chill.

We're getting into the over analyzation of music again... It's just music. You like it, fine. You don't, fine.

What I call 'emo' is a type, a sound of music, not something that deals with human emotions. Most music deals with emotions, but the music and the way it's written is what sets the different genres apart.
There are lots of similarities and cross over points for almost any genre of music, so trying to analyze and categorize EVERYTHING is only going to run you in circles, piss people off, and start flame wars.
Lets not flame over music...it's supposed to be fun.

WHY?! Anyone can do that!
Ahhh. THAT'S why you don't like rap. In that case, I don't blame you. Lil' John's pretty lame.
BeatmaniacIIDX wrote:Even the fags in the sweaters and scarves and let alone the fags in girls pants and bright pink shirts are just a shadow of original emo.
This sucks. Apparently I am a cigarette, for I like scarves and sweaters.

I hate cigarettes.
Signatures sure are awesome.

Music in all it's forms is considered the most important form of media.

This is because music is not only one of the oldest forms of art and culture, it's also used in many other forms of media, inclduing television, radio, theater, and even the internet.

The only form of communication considered more powerful than music, is human language it's self. And some might even debate that, because many forms of music include language.

It is believed that all humans have a natural instinct for language. Language is considered to be an essential part of the human condition.

Some speculate that music is a kind of "universal language" that all humans, as a group, have a natural instinct to learn, and is used by the group to communicate emotion.

Music is considered the most powerful form of media. Though all the ways it effects people is unclear, it is obvious that it does have a powerful effect.

----------

Emo, being short for "Emotion" or "Emotional" is a style of music. Emo got it's name when it was considered underground music. Small groups of followers would gather at these venues and, like in most forms of music, felt themsleves influences "emotionally."

Influences on "Emo" include Hip-Hop, Rap, Punk, Heavy Metal, and good ol' fasion Rock n' Roll.

----------

Personally, I think "Emo" needs a different name. Most forms of music, except for maybe Pop and Commercial Jingles, deal with "Emotion"

Why, out of all the genres of music in history did "Emo" get the title "Emotional", instead of something back in like the 16th century... I'll never know

To make things clear, what we call 'girl pants' now are quite similar to what guys wore in the 60's and 70's. Were they fags too? It's just a matter of style and personal preference, doesn't mean you're gay. I've seen guys wear corsets before..not to look like a woman, or to say 'hey, I'm a fag!' but as their own sort of fashion. Yeah, fashion other than normal trends do exist, and are actually quite popular with large groups of people. They just do a pretty good job of staying out of the public eye.

What I'm getting at, is that in 20 years, what you wear on a daily basis could be what 'fags' are wearing.

One thing I've learned is never to say something "isn't music". It's sound, people listen to it and enjoy it, therefore it's music. A rap song that consists of a simplistic beat with someone talking rhythmically over it, that's music. Some guitar/bass/drum combo that knows only three chords and just plays them over and over, well that's still music too. It doesn't mean I have to listen to it or enjoy though...

It's just a real shame to me that pop culture pushes those silly 'gansta' stereotypes down our throats. It's too bad most people's conception of 'black' music is Nelly or Ludacris, rather than Miles Davis or John Coltrane. Oh well, at least we've got Alicia Keys; she was smokin at the Grammys last night BTW....

I put Converge on the list of bands that I liked if you read it. I'm really into early 90's hardcore like Rites of Spring and Minor Threat which later became Fugazi, which is apparently the true emo. So do you hate what you define as true emo or what you define as fag emo? Personally I like both and I do know what I'm talking about. Plus Built to Spill has been around for more than a decade.

As for this... "fags in girls pants" . Just because I wear girls pants doesn't mean I listen to Emo or that I am a homosexual. :P I don't even like Emo. It's like saying " I'm going to kill myself because I hate my dad but I won't cause I love mommy."

Here come some that a lot of you haven't heard of... (Most likely)

CLSM
Sharkey
Hixxy
Breeze
Styles
Kevin Energy
Gouryella
Dminus
Dougal
Andy Vinal
Dj Uplift

And here's the common stuff:
SOAD
RATM
Dmx (Yeah, rap, that's right)
Atmosphere
Orgy
Limp Bizkit
Static X
Red Hot Chili Peppers (My personal favorite)
Many others...
I love everyone and all... but fuck off.

So you're saying that anyone who wears girl pants, scarves, or sweaters automatically gets pounded or pounds in the ass?

How ignorant.

You're right, I'll give you that. however, it's musical qualities are simplistic at best, along the lines of really bad techno. I say it's 'not music' more or less out of my hatred for the pop culture that I'm constantly subjected to because of it. It seems to turn people into complete ass holes. To clarify things, I live in the subburbs...and there are way too many people young white males in this area, with good upbringing's and plenty of money, who insist they live in the ghetto, harass EVERYONE, and blare their 'music' full blast at all hours of the day and night, with no consideration for anyone around them.
Secondly, I don't like the content of the songs. I don't like drugs, I don't hearing about gang fights and killing hookers, and I don't like people that degrade women. Sadly, the women of this new found 'ghetto culture' seem to be just as bad as the men these days, and are degrading themselves as well...overall, there's just this huge lack of respect for everyone, and everything, and what scares me, is it's extremely popular.

I hate newer Power-Pop Emo. Original Emo isn't classified as "Emo" anymore because as someone said, Emo is now associated with being emotional. I over-reacted abit and I apologise, I just get abit touchy when people touch the culture that I've been apart of for so long and deeply care about. Brand New, Darkness Falls, and Box Car Racer AREN'T Emo!

Oh, and sweater boy, as long as you don't cry, bitch, moan, and act helpless infront of me, you're not a fag.. And I could use a fag right now.

I don't really wear sweaters that often.

Nor do I cry, bitch, moan, or act helpless.

I just like some emo, like Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service (if you call it emo).
