SDP how good are you at bowling?

My technique is basically "find a ball with a good finger config and throw the ball as hard as I fucking can with a subtle angle towards the pocket" and I think my highest is a 170 or something. I'm really just a casual player but I used to love going to the alley on Monday nights in high school with my friends.

Can someone with small baby hands even have a wide-ass grip and do the whole "curve the ball perfectly" thing or am I doomed to just have people marvel and how hard I throw the ball?

Old website. No wonder I got 0 booty in high school.
To be honest that site seems more well-designed than most school club sites nowadays.

Also, Merk, why do you only post at work if you browse from home? Do you hate your keyboard or something? Are you on a data plan and every bit of bandwidth is precious?

Well at least you know to call the 1-2, 1-3 a pocket so you're a step above the general cosmic bowling population.

Hand size/span has very little to do with ball speed, rev rate or ball motion. The things that get you the ball motion you see modern bowlers use are:
-Proper equipment, aka not general plastic house balls. Modern balls have varying reactive coverstocks with different polishes, grit finishes, pearlized, solid, particle resin, etc.
-Consistent approach. You have lefties like me who are extremely smooth from start to finish. You have people like our anchor at Oregon who have backswings over their head, plant their Nikes at their finish and cover 25 boards of hook with a 20mph ball. Unorthodox approaches can be successful as long as they're consistent in ball placement.
-Consistent release and follow through. You have to keep your wrist strong and behind the ball up to the release where it's a rotation to a handshake motion. If you think of your hand/wrist (palm up), a basic, strong hand goes from 6 o'clock to 3 o'clock at release. There's little variations between 5-7 o'clock depending how light/strong you want the release to be but those are really advanced adjustments that you shouldn't mess with (I didn't start using wrist positioning adjustments until senior year of high school; 4 years of competitive bowling at that point).

Non-bowling friends who I go bowling with try to imitate my throw and end up spinning the ball (hand goes over the ball). It doesn't matter what kind of ball you throw if your swing/hand position/etc are shit.

I have equipment drilled (distance from cg, pin size, etc), polished, buffed to work on different oil patterns, lanes, etc. When I bowled in Ft. Wayne, I had a ball I only used at Pro Bowl West because they were the only wooden lanes in our district. It's like how a golfer picks a golf club. There's different tools for different jobs.

You can develop a proper modern release, even with girl hands. You won't achieve it with a random house ball every week, though. The equipment isn't built for it.

How do I curve the ball? I just wind up with my palm under the ball and throw the ball really fast in a straight line. Am I supposed to hold the ball on its side and flick my wrist as I release the ball? I used to have videos of me bowling somewhere but they are not on le Youtube.

^^ This is me except I actually have a three step approach, I'm not some weird Arab looking motherfucker, and I wind the ball up behind my head.

Don't rotate your hand past a handshake or you spin the ball instead of roll it (there's a big difference). Again, a plastic ball that isn't fitted for your hand won't do much on the lane so if you're expecting to get a Jason Belmonte hook (youtube) out of the ball, it won't happen nor should it.

Yeah that website made me really, really nostalgic for the internet circa 1999-2000. Those were the innocent days of looking up secrets and easter eggs in video games and all the nuances of Final Fantasy 8.

I rarely browse from home since by home I mean "My Girlfriend's Apartment." She has a nasty habit of hating on message boards so I do my best to placate her and wait until work to satisfy my IndyDDR cravings. Besides, taking an IndyDDR break here and there really helps my posting quality because I am positive that if I were posting 24/7 that all my Merkisms would become tiresome. I need to eat, cook food, study for the CCENT exam, and tend to the kitties as well. On the post in question, I was up late watching the Monday Night Football game go into overtime and I wanted to post about how great/horrible the game was and Chad's post caught my eye so well that I just had to post about it.

One of my co-workers got a new video card in his workstation and he exclaimed, "Man I can't wait to watch some porn on this thing I tell you what." Because you see, a better video card is going to up the graphics on those codecs, flash videos, and .avi files wooooooo! He is going to be sorely disappointed when the Jap dicks remain pixelated and the amateur porn is still in amateur-vision.

Bloomington is a really strange amalgam of super conservative rednecks and ultra liberal professors/homosexuals/students. People actually from Bloomington tend to be the former while everyone that moved here for one reason or the other is the latter.

What I never understood is why people not from the suburbs have subtle southern drawls. I'm pretty sure Indiana is and always was a northern state so I can only imagine these people are just fronting to affirm their affiliation to southern political ideology. I vote against my own interests!

My brother and sister-in-law live in Bloomington while he gets his MBA. He has a southern accent but we're from Oklahoma/Texas so we have an excuse.

Does anyone here use Fitocracy? I wouldn't mind starting up an IndyDDR group.

In his defense it could have been one of those high tech hentai games like Real Kanojo.

Spam emails are great:
I have already had relationships with the man. That was the
wrong choice, that guy was a great deceiver, so we
didn’t make a family and whatever at all.
