Albums that ARE that good.

I saw this topic on a different board a while ago and thought it was really cool. The basic idea is to pick albums that are actually worth the hype they get, and to not flame other people's taste in music.
Here's a few to start.
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Radiohead - Kid A
Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted
Weezer - Weezer (TBA)
Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

How 'bout we remove the requirement that they were hyped up and just list albums that we really, really enjoy. Here's a sample of the albums that have meant the most to me over the years; the ones I've listened to so many times that I have every note memorized...
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
John Zorn - Spillane
R.E.M - Automatic for the People
Tori Amos - Boys For Pele
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Some of my favorites, in no specific order...
The Spirit Room - Michelle Branch
Hotel Paper - Michelle Branch
Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Op. 35 - (played by) Joshua Bell
You Make Me (single) - Monday Michiru
Songs in A Minor - Alicia Keys
Missundaztood - Pink
Greatest Hits - Shania Twain
To the 5 Boroughs - Beastie Boys
20 All Time Greatest Hits - James Brown
Debut - Sarah Chang
Gold: 35th Anniversary Edition - the Carpenters
...and there are so much more worth time (oldies) like Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder compilations. I like a lot of my collections... I'm too lazy. =D

Likewise. It gets overplayed a lot on the radio, but the album itself is amazing. Sadly, I lost one of the disks. Blast!
I'll also second 'The Downward Spiral' by NIN. The hype it got was largely
due to 'Closer,' but the entire album is quite interesting. It's defenitely a memorable experience, and the tracks themselves are complex and interesting.
Opeth's 'Ghose Reveries,' their latest album, is quite good. Granted, that's to
be expected from them, but they seem to have refined their sound, and this album in particular seems to stand out from the rest a bit. It's not my favorite album of theirs, but I believe it's somewhat different from their others, and thus stands out. The tracks are more diverse, yet blend together wonderfully and flow very naturally.
