There's actually quite a few spambots registering anymore. The phpbb CAPTCHA is easily remoteable and there are people in poorer countries who will happily solve them for pennies an hour. Heck, the phpbb one gets enough attention that I'm sure programs have been written to solve it entirely by computer.

Ho and I watch the new registrations and tend to go delete them as they get noticed. Occasionally one will actually complete the email verification and post something spammy. If it's non-obvious, feel free to call attention to it. Otherwise, it's probably best to just ignore it and a moderator will take care of moving it out of the way.
