Since I go to Loiusville every now and then, it would be nice to be on the same time as they are for the whole year instead of 6 months out of the year.
At first I really didn't care, but hell next year I'll have an extra hour of sunlight to enjoy after I get off work, I say FUCK YAH DST ROXXOR!!!!!!111oneoneeleventypotato(e)corndog

Yeah, but since everyone else does it, it makes sense in this case to conform.Ho wrote:Daylight saving time (yes, 'saving'...it's singular, get it right) is a waste of time. The sun will rise and set on its own schedule regardless of what number we try to assign to it. Or more accurately, the earth will rotate on its axis and orbit around the sun at its own rate.

True. I think DST is useless, but I agree that the fact that we're in a tiny minority that doesn't observe it only leads to unnecessary confusion. Of course my ideal solution would simply be to abolish DST nationwide.dancing queen iu wrote:Yeah, but since everyone else does it, it makes sense in this case to conform.Ho wrote:Daylight saving time (yes, 'saving'...it's singular, get it right) is a waste of time. Umm doesn't it actually save energy? If the sun sets an hour later than what you're used too, you would turn on the lights later. Granted its not a big deal in larger cities with adequate power supplys, but my friend used to live in St.Charles and if too much power was being used, they would just cut off power to random residental districts.Ho wrote:True. I knew that before that sucka got in office- just ask anyone who works at Lilly about the shitty job he did.Original Sin wrote:So far Daniels has been a pretty big hypocrit. 'I'm going to help schools.' And he freezes school funding. K? As far as I've been following, this is the first major thing he's actually done what he promised to do to begin with. On everything else, he strikes me as a huge hypocrit. Not that it's out of the ordinary for politicians, but it makes me feel good that I didn't vote for him.

Power saving was among the origins of DST in this country. It was designed to save power and resources during wartime by "delaying" sunset by an hour so people wouldn't turn on their lights as long at night.KegelsAndCreamCheese wrote:Umm doesn't it actually save energy? However, I would say that in this day and age it probably doesn't have the same effect. I think lights are probably among the least power hungry of electrical devices I use daily. Not to mention that most things I'm interested in are not particularly dependent on time of day. I'm a self-proclaimed Great Indoorsman. I enjoy daylight, but I don't often plan my activities around it.
All I'm saying is that DST isn't necessary and therefore I have no use for it. The amount of daylight in a given day is not tied to the numbers we assign and actually varies by more than one hour throughout the year anyway. We can change our habits without changing our time if that's what we're really aiming to do.
