If you want an even better HD option, get a WD Raptor. The bigger one is 72Gig, which is close enough to what you have there. 10K RPM SATA is lovely.

If you want to overdo it, get two and RAID them. A coworker does this on his gaming machine, and highly recommends it.

meh, I like how quiet the seagates are. I guess if you are going to have a super loud fan then you don't need one.

I know there is one, just didn't copy and paste it. It looks nice. =P

And I am debating whether or not to stick with 6600 256mb or pay $65 more and go with 6600 GT 128mb. I hear there is a big difference, but while still tryin to maintain budget and keep low, I'm not sure how big the difference is and if its worth the $65. I assume it is, but I'm on the MMORPG scene and I favor less lag over best graphics. Does videocard have to do with lag at all?

video card is almost the biggest part in lag, cept for cpu. You dont nee dthe gt for mmo rpg'es tho, 256 mb is plenty, and the clock speed is adequate.

the graphics card isnt really a big part of lag but more for the game "bogging" down lag is assosiated with latency derived from an inadiquate Internet connection or lack of bandwith...thats just my 2 cents

So the derivitive of lag is lack of bandwith... therefore the integral of bandwith is lag? :?

Are you a retard, 711? You're the type of person that gets on a server and bitches about the shitty lag when they're still running a vodoo3.

When there's tons of draw requests dumped onto a video card and it needs to keep swapping back into the system for extra memory, it'll "lag" you. The system will hang. Has next to nothing to do with your bandwith.... unless, you know, you're running on 56k and trying to run a torrent :p

Again, the Raptor wins for pure speed. They obviously aren't as concerned with space, seeing an 80G drive listed in the post.

In addition, every Maxtor drive I've had has failed well before any WD drive I've owned. I no longer buy Maxtors for this reason - a cheaper drive in this case doesn't just refer to the price.

In fact, I've just had my last Maxtor drive fail on me and I replaced it with a WD. I'm now running all WD/Seagate drives. The 5 year warranty on the Seagate drives is hard to beat, as well.

lag != dropped frames

lag is latency from the network. it has nothing to do with your video cards. the people that bitch about studdering are the morons who can't properly configure a game and just set everything to high

also, if you want your computer to sound like a jet engine go with maxtor. raptors are nice but fuck 1 year warranties. Seagate & Hitachi for life.

It is technically correct to refer to dropped frames as a "graphics lag." Yes some people pin their crappy graphics card lag on the network, but that's just because they're retarded, and when I'm dictator they will die.

Hopefully I'll get a lot of money for graduation and I'll be able to get a few better parts, but not exceed 900 or 1000. Yayayayayay.

This includes a monitor now, without monitor, the system itself is $1077. This doesn't include an Operating System or Microsoft Works or anything, but I have a burned copy of Windows XP that I hope will work. Once I get down to IU, I'm going to buy Office Professional for like $25 instead of the $300 it's asking for on the website, and I might buy an actual copy of Windows XP, if it's even necessary, I'm not sure. How easy is it, if I were to decide to buy a new Windows XP, to replace the burned one with an actual copy? Thanks, I'd like opinions on if anything should be changed or anything =)
