Well seriously, I've not learned anything in school. It's just something I have to do in order to move on with my life.

Potter wrote:Umm, Shammers, you are basiclly saying take anything even if you don't agree with it. That is the worst moral ive ever heard. So you shouldent stand up for what you believe in? Im saying I want to have a fucking choice, Im not trying to "go agianst the man" , Im trying to not stand and up and say stuff I dont mean nor believe in. What your saying just makes you a fuxking pushover, your basicly going through life drifting through doing whatever is told just to "get through it". Living life is about doing what you think is right and not let other people tell you how to live. Its incredibly stupid to just "go with the flow" and get it over with. Thats just stupid.
Potter wrote:Wow, I am quite aware that Im not goign to make a difference nor ever aimed too, I just dont want to pledge my allegience to this country or its god. And yes, Just "going with the flow" your whole life is a pretty bad idea and doesent really make you an individual. I look at people like that daily and just feel sorry for the fact that they wil never make any difference at all nor be remembered.
Okay, sure, you should have a choice what you say and don't say. I agree with that, because this is America, the land of free choice, yes?

But wait, you don't want to pledge allegience to this country that gives you that freedom. Okay. I will take my argument beyond the point of saying nothing more than, "Get the fuck out, then, as soon as you are capable if you hate it so damn much."

Do you think you are going to be "remembered" for fighting this tiny, insignificant battle in Indiana against the pledge of allegience? Do you think anyone besides your over-controlling, self-righteous teacher is even going to notice?

Sam was not saying go with the flow of everything that ever comes along, it's basically pick your battles. I agree with Silent_Blade up there about it not specifying a God, too.

My point is, it's a bunch of words you have to say to start the school day. Schools promote conformity because authorities fear our generation (by "our generation" I mean the majority of high school and college students) of constantly, stupidly rebelling teenagers who just want to get high, be depressed, and oppose shit. You don't have to mean what you say, but your options are stand up and at least pretend to say it and quietly take your seat, or get called out on something completely pointless (keep in mind, either choice makes no real difference in the long run).

(Side note: I also agree w/Sam about our overly emo country. If we whine this much now, what's gonna happen when our generation actually gets into power?)

The 'don't like it? Get the fuck out' attitutude is against the very nature of what America stands for.
I've pledged my allegience to this country plenty of times, but what does a paragraph of words have to do with that? So many people say it without any meaning anyway, to the point there IS no purpose. It's just there, something that everyone has to say to make some uptight politician feel better about himself.
I don't make idle pledges. I admire what this country stands for, but what this county IS, is not what it stands for.
If you don't like something about the way America runs, get a movement going, gain support, and try to change it. There are laws in place that protect that right for a reason. The majority right wing christians do it all the time, and by god the black people are good at it, but a non-christian white boy? HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE. We've got a right to preach change just as much as any minority group out there, whether people like it or not.
Get the fuck out? I don't fucking think so.

Hell, the feminists made meteorolgist name hurricanes after men for christsake, but the pledge of allegience? Now that's just stupid.

At Pike the school was you had to stand, but you didn't have to say it aloud.

I personally agree to that rule. I think at the very least you could stand in honor of the flag, because like it or not, you live in America and though it has its many faults, it is still a great country that is trying to keep you safe and secure. I dont think anyone should be forced to say it. Thats imposing one's belief on another, by saying the "One nation under God" part.

but yea thats my 1.5 cents.

Okay, before I go into my big thing, let's start with this. This isn't about the entire country, this is about Indiana specifically. So the, if you don't like this country, get the fuck out, is a moot point.

Secondly, I agree with Potter. If you don't want to say the pledge in school, don't. You shouldn't just stand there and say it, if you don't believe it. You shouldn't just stand and take it, becuase if you stand there for that, what else will you just stand and take? That's what's wrong with this country, and Indiana specifically. The mind set of all the people who have the ability to change things (aka, voters), is to just stand there and take it. We've been conditioned to do just that by the people in power. But, we do have the power to change things. We are the voters. The problem is, with Indiana, is the republican majority. The democrats in this state have never had a chance to put people in power who they believe is right. Did you know that Indiana has only ever gone Democrat in the Electorial College once? LBJ, in 1964. That puts us in a very difficult position to change things. Many people get the feeling that they can't change things because of that. That it doesn't matter which way they vote, because it'll still turn out the same way. However, we ARE the voters. We do have the power to change things. Sure, we may not like the pledge now, but, Mitch has only got two more years in Indiana before he has to face reelection. If you don't like something, do something about THAT. Sure, you may not be able to change stuff now, but you should start trying. Don't wait until 2008. Get your voice out there now, and get heard now. Honestly, you're more likely to be heard now, than in 2008, because EVERYBODY is trying to be heard in 2008. So, start trying to change stuff now, because you'll reach more people now. You don't have to start a major court battle to win. I'm not going to reiterate what I said in my previous posts in this thread, if you're really interested, you can go back and read them, but, USE YOUR VOICE!
