Oh and if you seriously take anything that a pirate says seriously then I woldent take anything else you say with an ounce of respect.
Gosh, I said it was amusing...Ease up mate.

And besides, that guy was a jackass...

Also, you guys don't know what the hell you're talking about. You probably all say "Oh my god!" Or whatever so why is it that when it's taken to have a meaning that's in MY mind patriotic it's blasphemy?
Boohoo, they're forcing their beliefs on you because they make you say under god? Grow up, that's nothing. My school is full of bible thumping whacko's if all they made me do was say the pledge I'd be happy as hell. The guys at my school expect me to practically quote scripture before I take a piss.
If you seriously can't take a bit of shit in your life like this, you honestly won't be able to survive the real world, nobody's gonna baby you and comfort you because someone said something mean or when someone had different viewpoints than you.

Skip over the "Under God" part if it's so damn offensive, I mean seriously. It's not that big of a deal, and if you're going to ban the words "Under God" Ban "God damnit" "Jesus Christ" "Christmas" And any other words that have even the most meager ties to religion, from movies and television and from the way you speak...

Someone might find it offensive =P

Excellent rationality. I totally agree: if you have a problem with one of those, you must have a problem with the rest.... they are all interconnected, after all. To act or say otherwise is to be a nit-picking whinner. This hipocracy is similar to whinning vegetarians citing animal rights while wearing leather shoes.

Potter: do you like getting Christmas presents?

if the answer is yes, then don't complain; its a christian society that makes that possible.

Of course I get christmas presents, my parents get them for me. Why and the hell would I turn those down. Recieving gifts really has nothing to do with god, after all all those crazy christians are saying that the toystores or w/e invented the idea of recieving gifts. And the under god thing isnt why i dont say it, I dont say it because im lazy and dont want to pledge naything to this country. Im not not doing it because It hurts or burns to do it, Im not doing because its easier to not do something you dont want to do than doing just for the point of "being a man and taking it". If i was forced to say the pledge, I would say it everyday and not say one word agianst it, but so long as I have a choice Im not going to do it. Its not liek im hurting anybody or complaining, I just sit there. And YES I do observe the moment of silence.

Thanks for a more sane post this time, Potter. Much more appreciated than the last few. ^.^

As far as I know, the "crazy Christians" tie giving presents to each other back to when the magi brought the Christ child the gifts of frankensence, gold, and myhrr.

I could be wrong, so please don't quote me. But I've been going to church since I was...well, born...and that's where I'd tie in the tradition of giving presents.

And Silent_Blade, I laughed my ass off at the website you posted. I lol'd a little at the comic part, but the paragraphs under it just cracked me up. Thanks! n_n

Everyone goes through the rebellious "does God exist" phase. Everyone should try and figure it out by themselves rather than push ideas on people, which is pretty much what gets people upset in the first place about God being pushed on them.

The end.

Whether you should just skip over the 'under god' is irrelevent, the argument is that it should be there in the first place under the separation of church and state written into this countries constitution.

Christmas isn't Jesus's birthday anyway, you know. Christmas is actually Yule, a pagan holiday, and way back in the day the christians assigned the celebration of the birth of christ to that day.
Besides, most of our society celebrates christmas with little or no religous significance. I treat it as a family experience, and it has nothing to do with religion for me.
I say 'Oh my god,' or 'god damn' all the time. Yeah, I believe in god, but the fact of the matter is, I don't believe god should be in legislature, and certainly not in the pledge of allegience.

Pushing religion on people does nothing more than breed malcontent, and eventually, it will create enemies. Isn't American supposed to be unified? Do we really want to further the gaps between social groups that much more?
If you want to practice religion, by my guest. But practice it in the privacy of your own home, or at a church, temple, mosque, etc. Keep it out of my face, out of my life, and out of the laws the govern my country. As far as I'm concerned, you're free to practice whatever you want, so long as it doesn't infringe on my rights, and I don't have to deal with it. I don't push my beliefs onto people, and by George, the lease these people could do is offer the same in return.

Original Sin wrote:The 'don't like it? Get the fuck out' attitutude is against the very nature of what America stands for.
I've pledged my allegience to this country plenty of times, but what does a paragraph of words have to do with that? So many people say it without any meaning anyway, to the point there IS no purpose. It's just there, something that everyone has to say to make some uptight politician feel better about himself.
I don't make idle pledges. I admire what this country stands for, but what this county IS, is not what it stands for.
If you don't like something about the way America runs, get a movement going, gain support, and try to change it. There are laws in place that protect that right for a reason. The majority right wing christians do it all the time, and by god the black people are good at it, but a non-christian white boy? HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE. We've got a right to preach change just as much as any minority group out there, whether people like it or not.
Get the fuck out? I don't fucking think so.

Hell, the feminists made meteorolgist name hurricanes after men for christsake, but the pledge of allegience? Now that's just stupid.
*Ahem* that's why right after I said that, I pointed out that it wasn't my argument at all. Or, did you miss that part where I continued the post?

Actually Yule is celebrated on the 21st

EDIT: some clarification. The reason why there are similarities between yule and Christmas is because of the conversion of paganistic germanic tribes who did not want to interfere with the festivities of Yule, They include the traditions of eating ham, binging in pine trees, burning a yule log, hanging boughs, holly, mistletoe. and so on. This is just an adaptation of the Yule celebration. Other Paganistic traditions that the church adapted to include Halloween and Easter. Easter also has many traditions adapted for the Germanic people. The reason they adapted to them is simple, Machiavelli even knew that it was easier to conquer a country if their traditions are left untouched and they just follow a different ruler, this is what the catholic church did in order to convert the germanic people.

Now easter is interesting because the name itself is taken from the celebration of the Goddess Eostre. The celebration was directed towards the renewal of life, spring, fertility, and the rabbit (technically was the hair) yep that's the easter rabbit right there. And even further back you can look at the derivation of the word Eostre which is seen as the word aews from old teutonic, which was the personification of the morning star (Venus) and now you see that this was taken from a celebration by the Ancient Romans or Greeks.

I wasn't directing that at you in particular, I've heard the 'get the fuck out' argument hundreds of times, from numerous people, and since it was once again being thrown around in this thread, I decided I needed to clarify some things. That particular argument is one that irks me to no end, so, there was no getting around it.
