It's a dancing video game. DDR music is boring. Simply put. There's very few songs on the game that are actually fun to listen to.
because I like to state my opinion fully, without any possible holes in the argument.

I really can't fathom how you could say that DDR music (aside from Extreme) is boring, compared to ITG music, which all sounds the same to me, as if it was made on fruity loops.
Cbav wrote:And why are you bashing Kyle Ward? The songs he makes are great for dancing games.
seriously. It's a dancing video game. Not a music cd.
There's no argument here though. 99% of the songs in ddr have a high pitched 7 year old japanese girl singing to it.
I'm bashing him because his songs suck for dancing games. When I play songs on stepmania at home, I usually play Rhapsody, Dragonforce, metal, speedcore, i.e. songs that are "full" (have a lot of instruments, song is well put together by multiple people, usually sounds great). I don't want to play some song that sounds like it came off an Atari.

Also, if you're talking about extreme, your claim about 99% in DDR is true. 3rd Mix + and 4th mix +, no, this is untrue, and you must admit this. Maybe you didn't play these mixes or something, but there is less than 10 songs in each game that could be categorized in that way.
Cbav wrote:Why do you care so much though.. do you listen to DDR or ITG music on your mp3 player? lmao.
Dust Devil, yeah. You know some of these songs *existed* before ITG right? D-Code was the Adult Swim song years before ITG was even a dream.

I wouldn't have argued but the claim that ALL of DDR music sucks compared to ITG, and that it's all japanese girls singing in all mixes, and that ITG music mainly sounds good, are just ludicrious claims.

ITG music = every song for the most part is made by one person, is narrow in genre selection, mostly sounds the same
DDR music in 3rd/4th mix + = almost every song is made by a full band, is a known song, covers tons of genres, etc.

So, that's my last argument on this. back to welcoming thread

p.s. go to rascals on fridays

nah, i'll fully admit that i start a LOT of arguments, just because i'm opinionated.

the thing is though, a lot of people mistake me liking to debate and being opinionated as "wanting to appear/be right"; this is incorrect. if anything, i'm trying to get people into a debate *to prove me wrong* with facts or solid opinions that are at least based off fact.

this is the reason i respond so vehemently when people post completely un-factual things, dead seriously (if it's joking who cares); i hate incorrect facts being spread around. it's just one of my pet peeves, if i'm incorrect factually, i will gladly admit i'm wrong because i wouldn't want to be spreading around lies etc.

I wish we had more of this here: presenting information or an opinion while backing yourself intelligently. True discussion tends to be somewhat rare, it seems. And when it does happen, I wish people wouldn't take it so personally. DBV explains himself well. It's not an attack. It's a prompt for further debate.

Debate is good. Agreement is optional. Civility is key.

There is a difference between fact and opinion.

ITG vs DDR is an opinionated argument/debate if you go about it subjectively, there are many qualitative aspects of the game that none of you have touched on, so I've yet to see many facts in this thread.

I don't think comments like "Some weird ethnic shit that basically sounds racist as hell," "Some EXTREMELY gay songs that i would never play in a million years because they sound like they were made for Kidz Bop," and any of the comments in parenthesis on that long post are anything "civil" and far from "backing yourself intelligently." That is just my opinion however, not fact. Feel free to disagree, I'm sure you do.

Just to be clear, since you quoted me, my post was directed specifically at the attitude set forth by DBV's post that immediately preceded mine and not necessarily his earlier post that you quoted.

You are quite correct that a judgment of whether music is "good" or not is purely a matter of opinion/taste. However, I think that DBV's arguments do ring true that the variety of DDR music is much more expansive than ITG if you do as he says and take the entire series into account and not only one particular mix.

To answer a question posed earlier...Yes, I do listen to DDR music outside of the game. Pump, IIDX, pop'n music, and other music game series as well. The games have exposed me to a lot of music I likely never would have heard otherwise, and I enjoy quite a lot of it. And my enjoyment of the music also enhances my enjoyment of the games.

In my opinion, ITG music--licenses excluded--does sound all the same to me. It's not particularly my taste. I don't hate it, but I'm not inclined to want to listen to it either. I don't personally connect to ITG music and that's one reason I don't really connect with the game either.

But let me reiterate that this is not ITG hate. I can understand why people like it...and that's great for them. I've just decided that it's not really for me.

A lot of people seem to get behind one camp or the other and hate the others simply for being different. I can't even begin to tell you how many ITG players seem to hate DDR just because it's not ITG, or DDR players that hate PIU because it's not DDR, or PIU players that hate DDR because it's not PIU, etc., etc. In many cases, they've not even played the other game!

I encourage all to give each a chance. Each has its own merits. Enjoy what you wish. There is no disloyalty in liking more than one.

I assumed that you meant every post of his over the entire discussion and not the last one exclusively, I misunderstood.

Ho explained my viewpoint pretty well, but i'd just like to state, yeah, 99% of all ddr music is not japanese girls singing, especially in 3rd/4th mix +.

ITG music is, majority techno.

These are facts. Not opinions.

Also, you have to understand, when I say things like "EXTREMELY gay music" or "Very racist song titles", i'm exaggerating facts that are already there, to give them more emphasis. The facts are still there, and I say them in the sentences.

For example, you can't be telling me that Hip Hop Jam doesn't sound like it was made for Kidz Bop or overall is just an extremely kiddy-sounding song like it would be at a birthday party or something. That's basically fact, and I used the fact that it was "extremely gay" to emphasize that.

Basically, take a person like Steven Colbert or Keith Olbermann, something alone those lines, how they exaggerate fact by getting into it, but the fact is still there.

And as i've said before, I hate no one on these boards; nor have I ever gotten actually, seriously, "omfg" angry over something on an internet debate. I just like to debate, basically, and most people take that as an attack, which it's not.

Yes, genres can be opinions.

However, the genre stated by Cbav was "7 year old japanese girls singing" aka young japanese girls singing j-pop or whatever.

It is still fact that if you get all of the songs on 3rd mix + and 4th mix +, there are no more than 10 songs of this type with young japanese girls singing that way on each game.

Techno commonly refers to a genre of music that is created without real instruments; i.e., synthetic. Under this genre there falls house, D&B, jungle, and many other genres.

It is impossible to argue that the majority of ITG1/2 music was made with electronics, i.e. was not a full band, gathered in a studio, playing drums/guitar/etc., compared to the wide number of DDR 3rd mix + and 4th mix + songs that are in fact, "real" songs.
