DDR was before ITG, know your roots I always say and DDR is more fun to freestyle even with less mods to use.
I'm about equal in both games though, worse at harder songs of course.

if ITG didnt have r21, really, the actual music that ITG/ITG2 comes with sucks bad. r21 is the complete saving grace for me on it

ok, what?

I hope you're only talking about Extreme, because 3rd mix+ and 4th mix+ are second only to PIU in terms of music variety. Both of those mixes had less than 15 songs of the variety you're talking about each, tops. The rest covered a shitload of genres, from metal, to punk, to pop, to rock, to jazz, to soul, and so on.

ITG/2 music =

---Kyle Ward techno which sounds like it was made on Fruity Loops (seriously, let's make a trillion mixes of Disconnected... BETWEEN TWO GAMES, and let's have them sound all the exact same!)
---Some weird ethnic shit that basically sounds racist as hell
---Some EXTREMELY gay songs that i would never play in a million years because they sound like they were made for Kidz Bop
---More generic techno
---Some techno that tries to sound hard and evil but just comes off as crap
---Dust Devil, the only good artist in the entire game (with like, maybe one or two other artists being decent)

Drummania/Guitar Freaks pretty much owns the market in terms of music variety though if we're talking all music games. Still, PIU > DDR 4th+/3rd+ > All other mixes of DDR except Extreme > ITG/2 & Extreme for music variety/quality.

EDIT: for your enjoyment, here is a list of the worst songs in ITG/2. Remember, this is how they SOUND; i'm completely ignoring what stepcharts they have. Anything not on this list or the next one is still bad, but just not mind-blowingly horribly.

-No 1 Nation (holy shit, talk about generic pop rock with the most retarded, generic melody and lyrics possible, same goes for Normal)

-Music Pleeze (wow, i don't even know what to say about this one, sounds like Chris Rock made a rap song)

-Bambee's songs (good lord, I want to kill myself when I hear them)

-Every single rap song in the game w/lyrics or anything by anyone named DJ *blank* (all of this DJ stuff is just terrible, sounds like it was made by some bored kid with fruity loops and sung in a basement while they did cocaine to come up with the completely generic and broken lyrics)

-All of the "group" songs (Hillbilly Hardcore, Hispanic Panic, etc. nice names guys, how about we name one "Black Attack" and make it a rap song? That'd go over well, and how about you use something besides fruity loops as well? That'd probably help too.)

-Crispy (kill me)

-E-Rotic (usually good, but the songs they put in here are failure)

-Hip Hop Jam (this is possibly the gayest song I have ever heard in my life, the chorus makes me want to throw the machine through a window, this sounds like it was made for Kidz Bop)

-Everything by Inspector K/Kyle Ward/ZiGZaG/KaW/etc. and Smiley (do I even need to explain this?)

-Everything by Kid Whatever (nice buzzing sound, with like, the most generic drum track ever on Wake Up)

It's a dancing video game. DDR music is boring. Simply put. There's very few songs on the game that are actually fun to listen to.
